The Initiative

is the result of a joint action between sixteen Civil Society Organizations.
Our purpose is to expand the conservation of protected areas through knowledge, promoting the production, dissemination, and access to qualified information about Conservation Units, Quilombola Territories, and Indigenous Lands, in order to collaborate with the defense, conservation, and sustainable development of these territories.
Products
The PROTEJA platform was launched in 2019, with the goal of creating a virtual library to gather knowledge about protected areas. Since then, the initiative has grown and we have been encouraging the development and dissemination of knowledge about protected areas through various products:
PROTEJA Educa
The Proteja Educa program provides training for young people living in protected areas, enabling the dissemination of traditional knowledge and scientific understanding related to their communities and territories.
PROTEJA Talks
The events promote the exchange of successful experiences in the preservation of protected areas, bringing together indigenous peoples, traditional communities, leaders, managers, and activists in both in-person and online formats.
PROTEJA Podcast
The Proteja Brasil podcast reveals findings from scientific research on protected areas in the Amazon, promoting a debate about the conditions of preservation and what is necessary to ensure the conservation of these areas.
PROTEJA Library
Integrated into the PROTEJA Portal, the PROTEJA library gathers over a thousand contents about protected areas in various formats, covering most of Brazil’s biomes (Atlantic Forest, Cerrado, Caatinga, and Pantanal, in addition to Pan-Amazonia) and offering materials in both Portuguese and Spanish.
