Protect the Future: Challenges and Solutions for Reducing Environmental Crimes
In its sixth edition, PROTEJA Talks will discuss this year a path to find answers to the environmental threats affecting the Amazon.
At the in-person event at the Bosque da Ciência, starting at 8:30 AM on November 25, researchers, indigenous leaders, traditional peoples, prosecutors of Justice, and members of civil society will discuss ways to measure, restore, and prevent environmental damage caused by crimes against the Amazon rainforest.
The event will feature translation into Libras (Brazilian Sign Language).

What is PROTEJA Talks?
To spread inspiring experiences in the preservation of protected areas: this is the mission of PROTEJA Talks. With an innovative format where speakers narrate their stories directly to the audience, the Talks stage has already gathered 68 speakers from over 9 states, 11 indigenous peoples, and eight traditional communities.
Having its first edition in 2019, the event has been through Brasília, Manaus, and Belém, and all its editions can be watched online.
Organization

5th edition (2023) – Towards COP30, for threat-free protected areas
Held in person in Belém (PA), it featured contributions from 17 speakers reflecting on the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) and ways to prevent and combat threats to protected areas.
4th edition (2022) – Territory and Resistance
Presenting ten stories from indigenous peoples and traditional communities of the Amazon, showcasing their efforts for territorial, social, and economic monitoring, in Manaus (AM).
3rd edition (2021) – Youth for Climate Justice
Entirely online, this edition echoed the voices of five young leaders active in combating the climate crisis, whether participating in International Climate Conferences, fighting fires in preservation areas, or contributing to quilombola community organizations.
2nd edition (2020) – PROTEJA Talks + A Day in the Park
By joining forces with the initiative that encourages visits to conservation units, this edition brought a series of debates, led by actress Maria Paula, on legislation, economy, health, and climate emergency: all related to conservation units.
1st edition (2019) – PROTEJA Portal Launch
Sharing 15 stories of lives dedicated to protecting forests and supporting those who live in them was central to the first PROTEJA Talks. It was also during the event that the PROTEJA Portal was first presented to the world.
